Deuteronomy 30:15-20†† Life and Death - set before you

Your Choice

15 "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil,

Life

16 in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.

Death

17 But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18 I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess.

Heaven and Earth - Witnesses

19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."††† NKJV

Facts Revealed:

Your Choice††

Y   God gives us the choice between life with blessings and death with curses.†† [Deuteronomy 30:15]††

Y   God has always set choices before His people.

He put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, commanded mankind to avoid eating from that tree while all other trees were freely available for eating.

God provided information so the people would know the consequence of their choice.

God allowed Satan to come into the Garden of Eden to offer an alternative to obedience toward God and call the people to make a choice to obey God or to disobey God.

In all of Godís laws, man is free to choose to obey or to disobey.

Again God has provided information concerning the consequence for the choice people may make, reward of life for obedience, and curse of death for disobedience.

Therefore, we make informed choices, and must accept the accompanying results.

Life

Y   Obedience is advised as it will produce the benefit, that you will live, and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.[Deuteronomy 30:16]††

Death

Y   Warning that the danger of disobedience is pending death, destruction and loss of the Land of their possession.[Deuteronomy 30:17]††

Disobedience is an attitude of the heart that causes it to turn away and refuse to hear the warnings.

Disobedience is the heart that is enticed to draw away from Yehowah Eloheyk and worship other gods and serve them.

Heaven and Earth - Witnesses

Y   Heaven and Earth are called as witnesses that Moses was faithful to deliver the call to the people of Israel.††† [Deuteronomy 30:19-20]††

The choice between life and death.

The advise to choose life, for the sake of this and all future generations.

That you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him.

For He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.

Y   What we do on the earth is a testimony to all the people around us that witness our actions and see the resulting blessing or curse that comes upon us.

By watching Israel receive the blessings for obeying the commandments of God, the world can see that God really is the God Who keeps His promise to His people.

By watching Israel suffer the consequences of disobedience, the world may come to realize that God really is a God Who does exactly what He says He will do.

It therefore becomes an example to the world at large that God is One to take seriously.

God is able to call things of earth to witness against us.[Habakkuk 2:11]††

Y   What we do on earth is also a testimony in heaven that God is wise and does what is right.

The angels are watching what we do here and the result of our actions.[1 Corinthians 4:9, 11:10, Ephesians 3:8-12, 6:10-12]††
