Genesis 13:14-18 Extent of the Promised Land
4 “And
the LORD said
to Abram, after Lot had separated from him:
"Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are--northward,
southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your
descendants forever. 16
And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a
man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be
numbered. 17 Arise,
walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you." 18 Then Abram moved
his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an
altar there to the LORD.” NKJV
Facts Revealed:
Y
God waited years before He was willing to speak
to Abram about the extent of the Land of Promise: From His call to Abram in Ur of the
Chaldeans, the move of Abram’s family to Haran, for his father Terah to die,
then for Abram to move to Canaan land and on to Egypt, amass a great amount of
wealth, return to Bethel, and finally to separate from Lot completing God’s
first commandment to him to leave his family and his father’s house.
Y
From his hilltop-vantage point God said, “Look
North, South, East, and West from where you are standing, that is from Bethel,
all the land you see I give to you and your descendants forever.” This “Promise” was passed on to Isaac [Genesis 26:1-3] and to Jacob. [Genesis 28:10-13]
Y
Keep in mind that Bethel,
from which God promised the land, is now claimed by the Palestinians and is
called the West Bank. Palestinians are not descended from
Abram through Isaac and Jacob, but the Jews are!
Y
God said, “Arise and walk through the land,
its length and its width for I give it to you.”
Y
Abram moved from Bethel
to Hebron,
pitched his tent under the terebinth trees of Mamre and built an altar to
Yahowah.
Y
Hebron is
located 19 miles south of Jerusalem, also in the
middle of the so called “West Bank.”
Y
The promise was a forever promise,
and when the Kingdom of God is established with Christ Himself returned and
seated on His Throne in Jerusalem, the land will
be entirely returned to the nation of Israel.
