Genesis 26:34-35 Esau Takes Himself Two Canaanite Wives
34 “When
Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the
Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 And they were a grief of mind to
Isaac and Rebekah.” NKJV
Facts revealed:
Y Esau and Jacob are now 40 years old.
Y Isaac who was 60 years old when the twins were born is now 100 years old. [Genesis 25:26]
Y The first wives of Esau were both from the peoples of the Hittites which are included in the peoples that the Children of Israel are to drive out with the Canaanites when they are to inherit the Promised Land, which is called the “Land of Canaan.”[Genesis 15:18-21; 12:5, Exodus 3:7-8; 13: 3-5]
It was from Ephron the Hittite that Abraham bought the field and cave of Machpelah as a burial site when he was to bury Sarah. [Genesis 23:1-18]
Y It is also interesting to note that one of David’s mighty men was Uriah the Hittite whom David had killed so he could have Bathsheba his wife; she became the mother of Solomon.
Y Judith (means: praised) was the daughter of Beeri (means: my well) the Hittite.
Y Basemath (means: fragrance) was the daughter of Elon (means: terebinth, mighty) the Hittite.
Y Both daughters of the Hittites were also called daughters of Canaan. [Genesis 28:8] and they were a grief of mind to both Isaac and Rebekah.
